Dear Beloved Partners,

    “Let them give thanks to the LORD for His unfailing love & His wonderful deeds for mankind, for He satisfies the thirsty & fills the hungry with good things.” (Ps. 107:9)

 

   This Thanksgiving season, we give thanks for God’s faithfulness in our lives. We have raised four boys on the field for almost 20 years and never had to skip a meal. We may have given up some things but God richly provided more than enough for our family. Immanuel graduated and works in NM, Silas will graduate in May 2025, Josiah is married and attending college with his wife in OR, and Simeon is in 11th grade and will be a senior soon. We thank God and all of you for your love, prayers, and support. Let’s reflect on God’s love, provision, and grace this Thanksgiving.

   Prisca stumbled across a book that was for grabs and opened it to read a few pages and was blessed. “Are we merely living, or are we walking with God? Enoch walked with God and I must surrender my fascination with myself to a more worthy preoccupation with the character & purposes of God. I am not the point. God is. I exist for Him. He does not exist for me.”(Larry Crabb’s Moving Through Your Problems Toward Finding God) Nevertheless, Our God & King is slow to anger and abounding in love and does not treat us as our sins deserve.

   As Aquila drives to the rehab, he continually worships and prays passing the temples that are strewn all throughout the neighborhood.  The “darkness” in that city is overwhelming. But we are so thankful that the young men at the rehab. are changing as they hear God’s word & worship. Aquila has been going two times a week but had to miss once because our old van broke down.  Please pray that we can get another car soon. Also, please pray for the college students attending the English Corner to understand the Gospel & accept Jesus. Many of them cannot speak/understand English at all so Aquila will mix Chinese with English so that they can better understand the Gospel and God’s Word.

   Prisca has 12 students in her upper elementary class now. Most seem to love the LORD or at least act like it.  One boy named Oly came into her class without knowing about God, the Bible, or Jesus.  Now he has been transformed into a boy who sings worship songs the loudest. Oly put Jesus all over his Geography cover page and Prisca was very touched but politely asked Oly to maybe remove some of it but Oly did not want to. Seeing children come to know Jesus in the classroom is so rewarding and the commute of 100 miles seems like nothing.
Please pray for the following:

1. Idolatry, “darkness”, and ancestor worship would be replaced with the Bible, worship, prayer, and the power of the Gospel.
2. Prisca to love the students and have all of them come to love & worship Jesus.
3. To get a car.  Our 25 year old missionary van needs to go to “Car Heaven”.
4. Our visit this summer to connect with partners & churches, Silas’ graduation in May & future job, and family meeting the new bride & groom.

사랑하는 동역자 여러분,

    “그가 사모하는 영혼을 만족을 주시며 주린 영혼에게 좋은 것으로 채워주심이로다.” (시107:9)

 

이번 추수감사절에 저희는 저희 삶에서 하나님의 신실하심에 감사드립니다. 저희는 거의 20년 동안 선교지에서 네 명의 아들을 키웠지만 한 번도 끼니를 거른 적이 없습니다. 저희는 몇 가지를 포기했지만 하나님은 저희 가족을 위해 더 많은 것을 풍성하게 공급해 주셨습니다. 주함이는 대학을 졸업하여 뉴멕시코에 있는 교회에서 일하고 있고, 주영이는 2025년 5월에 대학을 졸업할 예정이며, 주성이는 결혼하여 아내와 함께 OR에서 대학에 다니고 있고, 주민이는 11학년으로 곧 졸업반이 될 것입니다. 먼저 하나님께 감사드리며 여러분들의 사랑과 기도, 후원에 감사드립니다. 이번 추수감사절에 하나님의 사랑과 공급하심, 은혜를 묵상해 봅니다.
   

   브리스길라는 우연히 책 한 권을 발견하고 읽다가 은혜를 받았습니다. “우리는 그저 살아가고 있을 뿐인가요, 아니면 하나님과 동행하고 있을까요? 에녹은 하나님과 동행했습니다. 하나님과 동행하기 위해 나는 나 자신에 대한 집착을 하나님의 성품과 목적에 대한 더 가치 있는 집착으로 바꾸어야 합니다. 내가 중요한 게 아닙니다. 하나님이 중요합니다. 나는 그분을 위해 존재합니다. 그분은 나를 위해 존재하지 않습니다."(래리 크랩으의 ‘하나님을 찾기 위한 문제 해결’)  그럼에도 불구하고 우리의 왕이신 하나님은 노하기를 더디하시고 사랑이 풍성하시며 우리의 죄의 따라 갚지 않으십니다.

 

아굴라는 재활원으로 가는 길에 동네 곳곳에 흩어져 있는 사당들을 지나며 계속 찬양하고 기도합니다.  그 도시의 '어둠'은 압도적입니다. 하지만 재활원의 청년들이 하나님의 말씀과 찬양을 통하여 변화하고 있다는 사실에 정말 감사하고 있습니다. 아굴라는 일주일에 두 번씩 가고 있는데, 한번은 오래된 미니밴이 고장 나서 재활원에 못갔습니다.  곧 다른 차를 구할 수 있도록 기도부탁합니다.  또한 영어코너에 참석하는 대학생들이 복음을 이해하고 예수님을 영접할 수 있도록 기도부탁합니다. 많은 학생들이 영어를 잘 말하거나 이해하지 못해서 아굴라는 복음과 하나님의 말씀을 이해할 수 있도록 중국어와 영어를 사용해서 말씀을 증거했습니다.

 

브리스길라의 초등학교 고학년반에는 현재 12명의 학생들이 겉으로 주님을 사랑하며 주님을 따르는 것 같습니다.  “올리”라는 한 남학생은 하나님도, 성경도, 예수님도 모른 채 그녀의 반에 들어왔습니다.  이제 그는 가장 큰 소리로 찬양하는 소년으로 변화 되었습니다.  한편 “올리”가 지리 교과서 표지 전체에 예수님에 관한 그림을  많이 그려 넣었습니다.  그래서 브리스길라는 매우 감동했지만 일부만 교정하라고 정중하게 요청했습니다. 그러나  “올리”는 교정하지 않았습니다. 교실에서 아이들이 예수님을 알아가는 모습을 보는 것은 정말 보람된 일입니다.  그래서 브리스길라는 100마일의 출퇴근 거리가 아무것도 아닌 것처럼 느껴집니다.

 

다음을 위해 기도부탁합니다:

 

1. 현지의 우상숭배, '어둠', 조상 숭배가 말씀, 찬양, 기도, 복음의 능력으로 대체될 수 있도록.
2. 브리스길라가 학생들을 사랑하고 모든 학생들이 예수님을 사랑하고 예배하도록
3. 새로운 차를 얻도록. (25년된 차가 고장이 많음) 
4. 이번 여름에 동역자 및 교회 방문, 5월에 있을 주영의 대학졸업과 장래의 직장, 새 신랑과 신부를 위한 
     LA 가족모임을 위해.
